Ill get started with the full back story....
I bought the truck with 18k miles, sitting on the side of a garage with the windows down, layed out, and there it sat for at least 4 years...
I paid 800 cash, and traded a stereo system that we installed at work and I payed my boss back the balance @ cost of goods...
So all totaled I have about $1,800 into the original purchase of the truck...
This is what it was.....
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/33/l_34a1f696e555492c93fea1f0799ddf1f.jpg
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/39/l_a692e52482ad40859753eb5218b23e01.jpg
yep makes you cringe right...well thats not the worst of it...
did I say the windows were down....
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/34/l_514f417527f74b099886cb72631f3349.jpg
It was closer to a trash can than a truck...
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/13/l_9587c78c51cd40b698db240ae91a8aec.jpg
So the first list on things to do was get it off the trailer and clean it up.. Just to see whats there....what needs to be fixed and what else I might find...
bed cleared out just hinting at what is there....
A solid 2 link with bag behind bar and some wild ass panhard...
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/58/l_359969ae4aff43dcb25293628375cdbe.jpg
you can see the dirt on the interior just built up over the years..
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/6/l_425fcebfa7764ff6879b79300d47eda3.jpg
I also sent some power pulsing through it... I really wanted the windows up and just needed to see why they didnt roll them up in the first place...
It just needed a battery .. thats it...
the original miles....
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/7/l_5c00b1e681a144fb873e69ac3577b09d.jpg
And cleaned the interior all the way...
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/59/l_06f71d4ad7dd4948a59500322154cbb3.jpg
Rats nest alarm and deck relocation I found under the dash...
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/10/l_d178006438a343d8b62e21a417604f04.jpg
Later I cleaned out the bed, removed the tank, extended bedrails, old tailgate and painted all the rusty stuff just to cover it....I also picked up a new tailgate, front bumper lower piece, both of them were free...f

OMG this truck was bitch banged or just done by a few idiots...
The drivers side frame rail is bent inward 2 inches at the very back...
so no where near square...Everything was stupid IMO.....
So what did I do... Cut that **** off and do it my way...

I did get some work done lately.... I finished seting up the rear end and I have the 3rd member mocked up and tacked...

http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/52/l_d15c22a5b03a48d09b98cd3bcc288923.jpg
This is just a Moched up and tacked 3rd member, It will be beefed up quite a bit...
My alxe at full lift keeps the same pinion angle(-5 degrees) as it does layed all the way out, and only shifts 1/2 a inch backwards.

So am I going to keep posting on my build log and nobody is even looking?
ahh well...
.Yep that was my Shock tab...
This is what I came up with...
All these parts except for the shock mount tabs themselves are leftover pieces from the original bag behind axle kit..
I had no real use for them so I figured out a way to,
I cant waste good laser cut steel and DOT tubing :nono:

Thx for the good word...
I am making some progress lately, It has been hard because We just had our 2nd kid on the 8th of Oct and that has eating up all our time literally...
BUT I did have some time to
Get all OCD on beefing up the frame....
Stripped it down and NOW I am ready for paint...
I plated the notch on top bottom and to the factory frame...
It overlaps all the but welds under it...
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/2/l_4acee75097824e2f929823cbd301caee.jpg
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/43/l_ecdc24f193994ad9a12777d00c3fbfbe.jpg
It was 3x1/8 Flat stock and 2x1/8 flat stock....
I checked into what it will take to FIX the exhaust...
I found that the MORON had cut all the sensors off instead of just unpluging them...
So Now I need 4 new sensors * I can tune out 2* and a custom exhaust.

Ok I did some final fab work in the rear by making my Air compressor mount....
I used a Old army Loudspeaker cabinet, Removed the speaker and mounted a plate to the bottom of it...Then welded 2xpieces of 1x1 square stock to a 3 wide plate steel that bolts to the bottom of the box, that all slips into the 2x2 pieces coming up from the frame...
When its all done and the bed is on I will cut down the 1x1, and it will pierce though the bed and into the 2x2 and flush the box to the bottom of the bed...Should make a nice solid mount and easy to remove if needed....This way I wont even need get under the truck if I need to remove my compressor...

The Coolest thing about the box is its well ventilated and the top comes off, for easy service, and I will Dynomat the whole box so you can't even hear my compressor....

Here it is... A CUSTOM 7 switch box... Made from Switches I Got from Suicide door for a $1 Each and a Old VW hubcap I had... Got All the wire, and connectors from work for free.....
So Its a $7 dollar switch box...
Sure its a little off the wall but it will fit my custom console when I build it and it also goes with the look I am shooting for.. * I need to find a "DOG DISH" chevy hub cap and swap it to that, But this works for now*

Here it is...
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/130/l_91fa41cd8efc401ab51ba914e1e11b42.jpg
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/143/l_5ed420e28f6249c5ab53f08b442075c8.jpg
I started Moving some stuff around.... Moved the ECM out and down..Moved the Factory batt to the Other side and added this little battery in its place custom mounted to run JUST the Compressor...
Re Mounting the Fuse block Up and over next to the battery....This whole bracket uses FACTORY mounts and bolts ...
This will clean up the engine bay quite a bit...But also creates a little issue of harness not being long enough to rout like I wanted....
Sooo this happend....
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/142/l_5a5adfb38fb4421b923d79c0a69984cb.jpg
I actually Cut that added length from another truck.. so its only going to be a single splice for the most part... it will add about 20 to 25 inches of harnes...
I am ALSO cutting the harness from the BACK of the firewall and moving it to the SIDE of the firewall to come out behind the fender under the wiper cowl...
I already moved the Cruse control module to inside the wiper cowl and extended those harnesses also...
I think it cleaned up the firewall a bit... should be REAL nice when its all done...
This is where the harness will come out of...
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/145/l_408d816641804a9f839bd3373e884fdf.jpg
Removed cruse and flipped inside cowl
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/147/l_88e154610c4a47ec95ec0161bd9ca35f.jpg
Cruse cable and brake booster harness coming from OUT of the wiper cowl... Slick right...
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/125/l_951c20036ea4415aac44366f93ad536a.jpg
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/125/l_758a0bec15c04d208d9b5e1daa2bd1ca.jpg
I also Built some Fenders... I know I said I would'nt uses any trailer fenders... But I changed my mind....LOL....
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/147/l_0d9efe0c60944cd49f2f3fcbe6b9e7f3.jpg
Super tight Fit on the outside edge... and I will lap the outer fender into the inside of the sheet from the trailer fender inner panel...
This started as a SINGLE Tandem trailer fender I cut in half...
Also using factory mounting hardware and locations....

This is all that needs to be adding wire to... not bad... cut 2 holes for wire move one add one..extend 1 harness, and about 6 connectors...re arrange stuff and make room under dash... re loom it tie it down and thats it..... its fuggin simple...
Ill post pictures of the NEW hole in the firewall as soon as i can get a hole there... stupid cheap hole saw....
( . )( . )
04-20-2010, 07:28 AM
Hell yeah. Looks good. Im going the other way with mine. Im relocating the fuse box and computer behind the front bumper under the core support. Its alot more work but should be worth the look and not have a cluster behind the dash.

12VoLt Shocker
04-20-2010, 10:28 AM
I looked at it from both angles.. moving everything to the bumper then what i did... I think after i am all done and everything is loomed it will still be very clean even under the dash
But under the hood will be even cleaner this way since all the engine harness will be tucked too....on a V6 you gotta do something to dress it up a bit....
under bumper was actually simple and less cutting but more wiring...wich is easy...
( . )( . )

:2girls:
Eat it up bitches!
Dunno WHY i am posting up progress here FIRST! because my last update just went un noticed... Maybe its because you are all sleeping... LOL....
I scrapped the under hood relocation for a full on wire tuck to moving all the components to under the dash...except the battery and overflow and washer bottle..
I needed to extend 1 BLOCK * its Green * and 1 Harness, both these run the lighting on the front and the air bag sensors...and i had to add the fog lamp wiring pin to the block since the Donar truck was missing fog lamps...
That is what i did tonight...
This needs to be under the dash ... SO make it longer... right...
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/116/l_c083571c68df4aaeacdf328e71e95b0e.jpg
I Robbed another truck for as much of this harness i could get....
And cut the end off mine one by one and added it to the back of the donar block.. (Green)
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/119/l_e721cea39ca44e80a903a2223136acb1.jpg
LoL No going back eh.... I am not at all worried...:eyecrzy:
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/141/l_042eefda5c8249fcb93974cd8ccaf75d.jpg
I marked the Cut areas with RED tap if ever there is a issue...
Witch I dont think i will with quality work like this...
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/123/l_48f5c3eaa0fc4ca0807b027c74a411ef.jpg
I Kinda Improvised my work area.. and it turned out really good...
I would shove the harnesses barbed mounts into the cardboard and it would hold the wire perfectly still and i also used it to clean the tip...
http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/119/l_5d56f5bd710442f1b829f55d5a749392.jpg
And that is the slack i have for moving it under the dash.. Should work just fine...
I passed the wire though the NEW hole in the side of the dash and the green harness though the old E brake boot in the lower floor....

Im kinda stuck on how to mount my bag cups...
I want to Float them next to the frame and fill the gap between the Cup and the Frame with flat steel....
Dunno how this could work out...I just dont like the looks of flat brackets and a couple triangle gussets...

I STILL need those UCA!!!!
So this is what I am trying to figure out on then front bag cups, and shock mount...
I have some 5/16 flat steel that I want to weld first to the frame then Weld the cups to the mounts
and Build a shock tab that unbolts from the top of the cups using that stud that is on it already...
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/124/l_ee208e30ec5a46bfb333ffb5af84886b.jpg
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/141/l_e116f40a7e9e43b1a673f9bb006c84f5.jpg
My beef ass tabs...the hole in them is clearance for the bolt on the UCA to come out..
Ruff Idea of the setup and its layout, outside the truck...It will be canti outward about 10* positive angle to the frame.....

http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/125/l_67c5cc3c832a44fca20cd66b33ee89db.jpg
The Only down side is that I wont be able to reach inside the tabs and weld there except where the hold is cut out maybe... BUT I want to fill the gap between frame and top of cup too... sort of box it all in .....Or is that over kill...?

your most likley getting all that horrible camber from using them drop control arms.. if you add spindles it will not help you with the camber issue. all that would do is move the wheel up 2 more inches (drop it 2 inches..) Now... may i suggest you use the stock lower arms that you got form brandon, use some 2inch spindels, and knock off them bag cups... if you wanna set it up the right way then use the torsion style upper bag plates.. if you need help man CALL me ill pm you my number.. i did josh nordeens upper bag brackets.. with the setup i just decribed you will be able to lay on 22s.. and the camber the way you would go about getting little to no camber you would raise the upper control arm bracket 2 inches.. HOLLER AT ME MAN!

Its good man I got it under control now... Its not that I know how to do it.. Its just that I followed some bad advice from Aaron Aha believe it or not, he told me that I would get the same effect with the djm arms and to ditch the spindles, I had some Beltechs and I gave em to Cory...:curse:

Ive been driving it for a day now and damn its got some bad Pull in the steering and it needs toe fixed, but feels good even without the shocks in yet...
I did get stuck in traffic today in the middle of a 3 lane road uphill too...
I Turned on my A/C, hit the gas and NOTHING... NO power I just died......
Blocking the road....
Lucky after traffic cleared I let it roll backwards downhill into a gas station Driveway ... Witch was uphill so i didnt quite make it into the lot.... LOL....
Turned out to be a fuse on the relocated under hood block... It Was the main feed fuse and a 30 amp so i put in a 50 and got a extra... been fine since...
Ohh and it was easy to change even after the relocation job...
